Quick Start Guide

The following guide applies to the Zettar ZCloud Virtual Appliance only. For ZCloud Platform, please contact us.

Get the Zettar ZCloud Virtual Appliance up and running with just five simple steps

Note: the Installation Guide contains screencasts that show you all steps listed below for each supported virtualization platform. You may wish to review the one for your virtualization platform first. For Mac and Windows users, the relevant screencasts should be your main reference.

It is also assumed that you are already familiar with one or more of the supported virtualization platforms: VMWare Fusion, Microsoft VirtualPC 2007 SP1, Linux KVM, Xen, and VMWare Server. Furthermore,

  • For the first two, you have either a copy of VMWare Fusion running in Apple OS X or VirtualPC running in Microsoft Windows (at least Windows XP Professional SP3 or later)
  • For the next three, you have got one of them running on your computer(s) running UNIX/Linux

This guide is written with such assumptions in mind.

Step 1: Download the Zettar Virtual Appliance from the Zettar Store

Step 2:

  • For VMWare Fusion and Microsoft VirtualPC users, please see the Installation Guide screencasts to proceed further.
  • For Linux users, open a terminal, cd to the directory where the just downloaded image is located, and then type chmod a+x ZVM_kvm_64-installer.bin; sudo ./ZVM_kvm_64-installer.bin for example to install a 64 bit Zettar AWS S3 Sandbox Virtual Appliance in KVM (if you have KVM running. For Xen and VMWare Server, please use identical precedure, with appropriate image file name changes.) Then, power it up using your virtualization platform (see the platform documentation or the Installation Guide for more details).

Step 3: Login the Virtual Appliance using the username/password pair zettar/zettar, and answer a few questions to configure it (Don't forget to adjust your /etc/hosts along the way!. Also, enter the First-time Password shown in your Order Details page correctly!). Optionally, once you are done, you can reload the Order Details page to see a License Activation History.

Step 4: Point your Browser to the Web Management UI of the Virtual Appliance and get acquainted with it

Step 5: Either download the Zettar Inc. supplied ZCloud starter client kit, and then run a AWS S3 client in the kit with the ZCloud Virtual Appliance, or run your own AWS S3 cloud application with the ZCloud Appliance.

If you use Apple OS X or Windows, please take a look of How do I use s3cmd with a sandbox? in our Tips and tricks section of our support forum too.

That's it. You are in business!
