I am pleased to post in this forum that in the last day of this past Feburary, we made a second release of our unique ZCloud AWS S3 sandbox virtual appliances. Now we cover the following five virtualization platforms:
- VMWare Fusion (for Apple OS X)
- VirtualPC 2007 SP1 (for Microsoft Windows family, Windows XP Professional SP3 minimum)
- Linux KVM
- Xen
- VMWare Server 2.02
The most visible difference in this release is the additional support of two popular desktop class virtualization platforms: VMWare Fusion and VirtualPC 2007 SP1. They should make it easy for many users to take advantage of our virtual appliances.
Nevertheless, please note that these two desktop class platforms have some intrinsic deficiencies, especially in accurate time-keeping under many circumstances (e.g. sleep/hibernation). Both vendors require you to install proprietary and restrictive extensions and/or upgrades as remedies only for supported guest OSes.
We however have tried our best to compensate all known deficiencies intelligently in our virtual appliances, without requiring you to deal with any of these vendor extensions/upgrades. At any rate, please let us know of your experience, and we definitely will try our best to make our virtual appliances more enjoyable to use with these two platforms.
